I stood on sandy shore and looked across the bay
A ship on the horizon gleams in fading light of day
First white then pale gold to match the setting sun
What route it travels, port, when its destinations done?

With the sun pristine ship swiftly fades, is leaving
Abandoning me on lonely beach gently grieving
That I could know of they who on this vessel sails
Envious of grand adventure, my imagination pales

For to know life one must grab life in strong embrace
And when it comes you cannot pause you must chase
If you seek what's on the horizon regardless of how far
That ship may come to you no matter where you are

In far distance, sparkle, sparkle, wave and dipple
Sails yon phantom ship away without a ripple
Often I call it back in colored memories of that day
My mystic ship of dreams forever sailing on its way

I think that in life our desired achievements are often like a
distant ship on the horizon. They seem to be in sight but
at the same time unattainable. I think we need always to be
attempting to board that ship no matter how far it seems
from our realties. We may never reach it but will certainly
not if we do not make the effort.

Psalm 61

Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.
From the end of the earth will I cry unto
thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me
to the rock that is higher than I.
